1st Meet Important Info!
Hello All,
I apologize now for such a lengthy email but it is necessary with our first meet happening on Friday! Show time for our first meet is 4:30 PM. Your kiddos are needing to be checked in by you or if they are older they can do it. If you run behind you MUST let me know (please text me at 210-912-9834 and let me know your status)!!! We will have the sign in table on the front side of the showers by the bathrooms.
If you have volunteered for this meet you will also need to use the sign in table for yourself as well! We will have name tags for each of our volunteer parents and on the name tags the new parents names will be in BLACK. Our seasoned parents names will be in RED. It will be a very busy time for me getting everything setup to be a great meet so if you have any questions during this time find someone with a RED name tag before finding me.
Things your child will need on meet day:
- Two towels – one to sit on and one to dry off with
- Swim cap
- Goggles – labeled so that when they are all laying on the ground during the meet they will be able to identify them. Do this by using colored nail polish or sharpie. This will need to be touched up periodically during the season!
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray – the mosquitoes are going to eat us alive this summer!
- Sharpie – to mark their events and name on their body (I will be attaching a diagram on how to do this)
- Water – to stay hydrated in the heat
- Something fun to do like cards, games, coloring book or basically anything to keep them busy in between swims.
Things for you to bring to the meet:
- Meet Program - I will be emailing out our meet program so print that off at home on Thursday night and bring it with you. It will show you when you kiddos are swimming.
- Highlighter – to find their swim information on the meet program.
- Chairs – our parents will be setup under the building so you can have some shade. You may also setup canopies on the side of the pool as well as behind the starting blocks.
- Camera – to capture memories!
- Money for concessions – we will have a concession stand in the pavilion just past the baby pool and the small gate will be open for you to come and go! We will have hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage wraps, nachos, sno cones, fresh spun cotton candy, pickles, drinks, and a ton of candy! All of the money goes back into our funds to provide more equipment for our kids.
It is imperative that your child stays under their assigned tent with their age group and tent parent during the meet or they may miss a race. This is something we are very strict about. I will be walking around and will not be a happy camper if your kiddos are walking around for no reason or are sitting with you. If you feel the need to be with your child the entire meet then I suggest you sit by them so they do not get into trouble.
Many of our kids will be involved in relays at the beginning and end of the meet. If you think they are finished swimming it is IMPERATIVE to ask their coach and/or me before leaving. If they leave before a relay, it has to be scratched and the other three swimmers and their coaches are going to be very unhappy with them on Monday. In addition, they will NOT be in any relays the following week so please follow the rules. If in doubt ask a seasoned veteran or a coach if you have any questions about this. The medley relay is going to be the very first set of events. The event is all for strokes (medley relay) and the order is 1)back, 2)breast, 3)fly and 4)free. The names of the kiddos listed for the event will look something like this:
Jane Doe Suzy Q Jane is back, Suzy is breast
Ann E Jo Z Ann is fly, Jo is free
Our meets are usually done by 9 PM so please allow that much time in your evening. As you know, there is limited parking at the pool. We will have caution tape up where you should NOT park. Please follow the rules – the Sheriff's department is usually called and they DO write tickets for those parked illegally. I strongly recommend you carpool, walk, ride your bicycle or be dropped off so that we do not have any problems with the HOA! If you do need to bring your vehicle and the parking lot is full please park at the school. That is our overflow parking area and it really is not far to walk.
There will be about 240 kiddos swimming that evening and their families as well so it will feel like a zoo to you at first so be prepared! Please ask if you are unsure about anything, we want you to understand the process. I am grateful that our first meet is at home so that our kids will feel comfortable with their surroundings.
If you choose NOT follow through with volunteering during the meet your child will NOT be allowed to swim the following meet. Please help us by contributing and making the meet run smoothly.
We are waiting to hear from our t-shirt company and hope to have them either tomorrow or Thursday and will distribute them as soon as they arrive! I still have a few swim caps so if your kiddo has not received theirs please get with me.
In other years we have asked for soda donations. This year we are asking for a $10 concession donation instead. If you are going to bring a check make it out to Wildhorse Swim Team. Your contribution really does help us keep as many funds as possible to provide great things for our kiddos. Please email or find me at the pool if you have any questions!
See you at the pool,
Kim
