Volunteering in a Nutshell
Not sure where to Volunteer?
Have small children?
We encourage parents with younger children to sign up for Set-Up or Tear-Down, Hospitality, and Age Group Parents. This allows the parent to be around for their children while volunteering for the swim team.
Enjoy being part of the action?
Timer, Runner, Stroke/Turn Judge, Starter, "Flipper", and Age Group Parents are great volunteer positions for you.
Consider positions to assist the Volunteer Coordinator, Age Group parents, Head Timer, Concessions Director, or Ready Bench. You will learn the ropes from the pros.
Want to be in the shade and still watch your children swim?
Volunteer for Ready Bench, Concessions, or Awards.
Age Group Parents (recommend 2 per group up to 12 and under group) -
Keep an eye on the kiddos in your group. Follow the heat sheet and help get kids to the ready bench when they swim. New parents will be paired with a "veteran" to learn the ropes.
You are at the end of the pool with a timer in your hand and press "stop." The head timer will arrange for breaks on your request.
DQ or Time Card Runners -
Pick up cards held up by the stroke judge or timers (depending on your assignment) and take to the computer table.
Ready Bench -
Help get swimmers in place on the ready bench according to their heat numbers and lanes. "Veteran" ready bench volunteer will coordinate for you.
Periodically circulate with water for volunteers and helps with trash pickup and bathroom checks.
Stroke and Turn Judges -
Paired with a judge from the opposing team, stand poolside and watch for infractions. **Requires some training, but very interesting job. Great for parents to learn details to help children improve their strokes.
Concession ** Home Meets only! -
You know the drill . . . Sell snack and dinner items to kids and parents in two hour shifts. Breaks are allowed to watch your swimmer in the water. Each 30 minutes throughout the home meets, you will check the bathrooms for paper supplies, recover run-away trash and supervise overflowing trash cans and make sure the pool area is welcoming to our guests, swimmers and home team families. A cleaning company has been hired for professional cleanings before and after the meets.
